The Texas Real Estate Exam is administered by the Texas Real Estate Commission for prospective salespersons, brokers, and real estate inspectors applying for licenses. All salespersons, brokers, and real estate inspectors must pass the state administered exam in order to qualify for a license in Texas.


In Texas, real estate students must complete a certain number of classroom hours before taking the state exam. Salespersons must complete 150 hours of core real estate courses in addition to 60 hours in other real estate related topics. Brokers must complete 270 classroom hours and 630 additional real estate classroom hours.

Testing locations are available across the state: Abilene, Amarillo, Arlington, Austin, Corpus Christi, Dallas, El Paso, Fort Worth, Harlingen, Houston, Lubbock, McAllen, Midland, Richardson, San Antonio, Tyler, Waco. In addition, the test will be offered in two locations in Louisiana: Lake Charles and Shreveport.
