The National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) is the primary certification agency for Massage Therapists and Bodywork Professionals. 

The NCBTMB ensures that massage therapists are held to a rigorous level of education and conduct. All NCBTMB-certified massage therapists must: 

  • Complete at least 500 hours of instruction
  • Demonstrate mastery of core skills, abilities, and knowledge
  • Pass a standardized NCBTMB certification exam
  • Uphold NCBTMB’s Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics    

The National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork contains 160 multiple choice questions of which 30 are non-scored "pre-test" questions. The following topics are covered on the NCETMB exam:
