The ACT is a popular alternative to the SAT. It is a standardized test used to demonstrate academic achievement of high school students to colleges during the admission process. The ACT is accepted by all four-year colleges and in 2011 more students elected to take the ACT rather than the SAT.

The ACT has four multiple choice sections and one option written sections. The multiple choice portion is two hours and fifty-five minutes long and contains the following sections:
  • English (75 questions, 45 minutes)
  • Mathematics (60 questions, 60 minutes)
  • Reading (40 questions, 35 minutes)
  • Science (40 questions, 35 minutes)
