The International Baccalaureate (IB) Biology exam is part of IB’s diploma program aimed at preparing students aged 16-19 for university level courses. The IB Biology diploma exam is assessed through both internal and external assessment. The number of questions per section is contingent upon candidate level; candidates may be at Standard Level (SL) or Higher Level (HL).
The IB Biology external assessment consists of three papers:
• Paper 1 contains either 30 questions (SL) or 40 questions (HL)
• Paper 2 consists of one data based question, short answer questions, and one (SL) or two (HL) extended response questions
• Paper 3 consists of several short answer questions, with an HL addition of 1 long form question
The IB Biology internal assessment consists of demonstrations of practical work.
