The California Real Estate Exam is administered by the State of California Department of Real Estate for prospective salespersons and brokers applying for licenses. All salespersons and brokers must pass the written exam in order to qualify for a license in California.

Exams are scheduled based on the volume of applicants. Test-takers may choose from five locations across California: Fresno, San Diego, Los Angeles Vicinity, Oakland, and Sacramento.

The salesperson test includes 150 multiple choice questions in one sitting. The broker test includes 200 multiple choice questions completed in two sittings on the same day.

The California Real Estate Exam has two versions, one for Salespersons and one for Brokers. The Salesperson's exam version contains 150 questions, and the Broker’s exam version contains 200 questions.

The Salesperson’s version of the California Real Estate Exam is 3 hours long, and the Broker’s version of the exam is 4 hours long.

The passing score for the Salesperson’s version of the California Real Estate Exam is 70% of the questions correct, and the passing score for the Broker’s version of the exam is 75% of the questions correct.

Passing the California Real Estate Exam is required for Salespersons and Brokers respectively who want to apply to become a Real Estate agent in California.
