The National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) is administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT). This certification test is designed to evaluate the clinical and patient care knowledge of entry-level physical therapists and physical therapist assistants in the United States.
 
The NPTE is a computer-based multiple choice exam with 250 questions, 200 of which are scored. Test-takers have four hours to complete the exam, and must take the exam on one of the fixed test days.
 
The National Physical Therapy Exam test is broken into four content areas:
  • Physical Therapy Examination
  • Foundations for Evaluation, Differential Diagnosis, & Prognosis
  • Interventions
  • Non-Systems Domains
